About the penguin tetra
The penguin tetra is a small freshwater fish native to the Amazon and Araguaia river basins of South America. It is recognised by the bold black stripe extending along its silvery body and into the lower lobe of its tail, creating a distinctive hockey-stick shape. Penguin tetras naturally form shoals and characteristically swim with their heads angled upwards—an unusual posture that inspired their common name.
